Easy college recipes for students to try in the dorms

With college comes the responsibility of feeding yourself, so Trenton Michon and I compiled a brief list of meals to make life a bit easier. Explore a couple of quick and simple recipes you can make in the comfort of your college dorm!

Microwaved Quesadillas

Ingredients:

  • 2 large flour tortillas
  • 1 cup of your choice of shredded cheese
  • Sour cream
  • Salsa

Directions:

  1. Place one tortilla on a microwave safe plate.
  2. Add shredded cheese to the first tortilla and place the second tortilla on top.
  3. Microwave for 1 minute or until cheese is melted.
  4. Slice and serve.
  5. Use sour cream or salsa as dipping sauce.

Upgraded Ramen

Ingredients:

  • 1 pack of Maruchan chicken noodles
  • 1 package of spinach
  • 1 egg
  • Chili oil (or chili flakes)

Directions:

  1. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
  2. Add noodles to boiling water a minute later.
  3. Add spinach.
  4. Cook for three minutes.
  5. Remove from heat, add flavor packet, stir well.
  6. Transfer to bowl.
  7. Fry or boil egg to your liking.
  8. Add chili oil and serve.

Burrito Bowl

  • 1 can of black or pinto beans
  • 1 can of corn (southwest corn with peppers added works best)
  • 8oz frozen or canned chicken
  • 1 single-serve cup of minute rice
  • Ā½ cup diced peppers (can be skipped)
  • Cheese, sour cream, Hot sauce to taste
  1. Add the corn, beans, chicken, and peppers together into a large pot. 
  2. Heat until all ingredients are warm, stirring frequently (at least 10-12 minutes).
  3. Microwave the rice according to the direction on the package.
  4. Add the rice and heated ingredients together, heat another minute. 
  5. Serve with sour cream, cheese, and/or hot sauce to taste.

Yogurt Bowl

Ingredients:

  • Greek yogurt
  • Fruit (plus extra toppings)
  1. Put your yogurt into a bowl.
  2. Wash your choice of fruit and add it on top.
  3. Sprinkle on your extra toppings.

French Toast

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • Milk
  • Cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 2 pieces of bread
  • Butter
  • Syrup

Directions:

  1. Add an egg and some milk into a bowl.
  2. Add a dash of cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon vanilla and whisk.
  3. Transfer to a container and dip 2 pieces of bread in the egg mixture.
  4. Cook on a skillet 3 minutes until both sides are cooked through.
  5. Serve with butter and syrup.

Pasta Salad

Ingredients: 

  • Rotini noodles
  • Chicken strips
  • Tomatoes
  • Cucumber
  • Carrots
  • Onion
  • Cheddar cheese

Directions:

  1. Boil rotini noodles.
  2. While noodles boil, cook desired amount of chicken strips.
  3. Chop tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, onion and dice some cheddar cheese.
  4. Mix pasta, chicken, veggies, cheese and preferred salad dressing.
  5. Serve warm or cold.
