Drake, ‘God’s Plan’ for Miami

Aubrey Drake Graham, better known as “Drake” to listeners, recently gave away almost $1 million while filming the music video for “God’s Plan.”

Drake’s new hit song, which has been No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 list for more than three weeks now, has made a lasting impression with fans for more reasons than the lyrics. In the opening of the music video the producers revealed title cards that say, “The budget for the video was $996,631.90. We gave it all away. Don’t tell the label…”

The ensuing music video is a mashup of different interview snippets with people from all over Miami who are shocked and emotionally moved by the charity and help coming from someone so famous.

Some of the recipients of Drizzy’s give-away include a student at the University of Miami who received a scholarship check, the women of the Lotus House Shelter who Drake treated to shopping sprees, the City of Miami Fire Department, Frost School of Music and the University of Miami.

There were also several clips in the video depicting Drake giving away stacks of cash to people on the street, giving toys to all of the children at Lotus House and paying for the groceries of shoppers in a supermarket.

Drake released a statement on his Instagram saying that the video is, “The most important thing [he] has ever done in [his] career.”

Fans took to Twitter to express their admiration for Drizzy’s act and music. Some of these comments include things like, “So far Drake won 2018,” and “I never really cared for Drake but after seeing his Gods Plan video… much respect to him.”

“God’s Plan” was released on iTunes on Jan. 19 under the “Scary Hours” single and has since gone triple platinum.

Turns out this artist has left a lasting impression and spurred some citizens to recreate his video in their own ways. Some have even created the hashtag “#GodsPlanChallenge” to encourage others to find ways to spread joy in whatever way they can.

With as many disheartening and upsetting things found in the news every day, it’s enlightening and encouraging to see an artist use their voice and money for goodness in any community.

Drake used to be the young person’s icon for emotional songs about heart break, but it seems his reputation could be changing to something more substantial. Who knows how the artist will find a way to top this stunt.
