Beauty, dedication and grace were all exhibited during Dr. Amy Yeung’s faculty recital on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
Titled Sounds of Grace, the recital covered classical religious works, each sang expressively by Dr. Yeung. Other performers included UT Martin faculty members such as pianist Dr. Chan Mi Jean, trumpet player Dr. Kurt Gorman and oboist Dr. Douglas Owens, along with student Alayna Copeland.
The music selection comprised a variety of songs of worship across different time periods and languages. The first pieces included Let the bright Seraphim by George Frideric Handel, Domine Deus by Antonio Vivaldi, Exsultate, Jubilate by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Eternal Source of Light Divine by George Frideric Handel. The recital continued with other famous titles such as Ave Maria by Pietro Mascagni, Cantique by Nadia Boulanger and Pie Jesu by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
As a finale, Dr. Yeung captivated the audiences with an a capella rendition of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot by Wallace Willis. Every last phrase was articulated with care and emotion as she sung lyrics that described the author’s desire to escape the world and return home to his home in heaven. She ended the song on a extended vibrato, earning much applause and praise from the audience.
