Senior forward and second-year Skyhawk Quintin Dove has been voted by the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) as the conference’s Player of the Week for the second time during the 2019-20 season.
Dove was a standout offensive producer in UTM’s Feb. 13 loss to Southeast Missouri (SEMO) and Feb. 15 overtime win against Eastern Illinois (EIU), scoring an impressive 71.4% (20-28) of his field goal attempts and 84.6% (11-13) of his free-throw attempts over the course of the two games. Complementing his accuracy from the field and charity strip, is his near perfect record (5-6) on three-point field goal attempts over that span.
Against the EIU Panthers, Dove recorded his sixth double-double (of the season with 32 points and three 10 rebounds, both of which led the team). Without star sophomore guard Parker Stewart playing alongside Dove against the Panthers, Dove managed to lead the Skyhawks to a slim 80-79 victory over EIU.
Dove also set new career highs in field goals made (12), three-pointers made (four) and minutes played (43), according to Sports Information.
Two days earlier against the SEMO Redhawks, Dove also had another offensive surge with a team-leading 24 points. However, despite having Stewart on the court to help offensively, the Skyhawks dropped the matchup by a close 74-72.
As of Feb. 17, Dove leads the OVC (conference games only) in scoring with 21.8 points per game. Fellow teammate Stewart trails closely behind Dove in third place with 21.1 points per game. In the rebounding category, Dove comes in fifth in the OVC with 7.4 rebounds per game.
Unfortunately for the Skyhawks, the individual successes of Dove and Parker (five weekly honors this season) haven’t fully transferred into team success, as the Skyhawks sit at ninth place in the OVC with a 7-20 overall and 4-10 conference record. Dove, Parker and senior forward Craig Randall II (no longer with the team) are the only three players to crack into the OVC statistical standings for scoring and rebounding so far this season in conference play.
The Skyhawks will continue their season with the final road stint of the 2019-20 campaign against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles Feb. 20 in Cookeville.
