If you are anything like me, you love chicken wings, from the melt-your-face-off hot to the savory-sweet flavors. And these days, it’s hard to find a good wing place that won’t charge you an arm and a leg to satisfy your craving.
Buffalo Wild Wings seems to be the first place that everyone first thinks of when they want delicious wings, but to travel from here to Jackson (being the closest location) can be a hassle. Before, I just let my wing cravings go because of gas prices, but now, I’ve discovered a place that will make BWW run for the hills!
Ida’s Wings and Things, located on Lovelace Street just across from Wendy’s, is one of the best, if not the best, wing place I’ve ever been to. Unfortunately, I didn’t discover this culinary delight until my junior year. Do not make my mistake! If you are a freshman, you need to go there now and become a regular; if you are a sophomore or junior there is still hope; and seniors … now you have an excuse to come back after you graduate.
I sat down with an Ida’s employee to get some idea for you as to what Wings and Things is all about. Ida’s has 23 flavors with local favorites — honey gold, buffalo hot and Special K. Special K was one of the flavors I tried, and it was by far my favorite. It’s an original flavor that is honey gold and BBQ with a little spice to it.
Ida’s has one great wings package that is a full set of wings, not a half set like at BWW, but that’s not all. Among these white meat treats, they have gyros, Philly cheese steaks and “the best half-pound burgers in this area.”
If you think the good things stop there, you’d be hoodwinked. They also have live music in their small and very comfortable atmosphere. Among the types of music played are blues, jazz, Christian, Christian rock, secular rock and everything else.
Now with all this awesome coming your way, I’m sure you think it must be pretty expensive, right? Wrong! Ida’s Wings and Things is a very good deal for such plentiful and delicious menu items. I know I’m going to become a regular, and you should too!
See you there!
