Discovery Park recruiting for artist showcase

Discovery Park of America is inviting artists to enter their semi-annual Local Artist showcase.

All residents of northwest Tennessee or southwest Kentucky are eligible to have their art displayed in the showcase. Each showcase series will last 6 months.

Discovery Park has been a significant part of the Martin and Union City environment since its opening in 2013. It  helps to enhance and educate children and adults with their more than 70,000 SF of exhibits focused on nature, science, technology, history and art. The park’s stated mission is to enhance the educational experience of children and adults, and to inspire them to see beyond their current level of knowledge.

The first deadline for this year is October 31. Deadlines for future exhibitions will be established semi-annually, with displays being changed at the same rate.

Ann Stapp of Paris, Tennessee is the current winner of the Showcase. Stapp says that she paints to capture nature’s beauty. Stapp’s work that will be on display on the lower level of Discovery Center until December. The winner before Stapp was Les Macdiarmid of Martin. Macdiarmid paints portraits and contemporary pieces, and has painted over 50 outdoor public murals in West Tennessee.
