UTM will continue the Allison Nelson Guest Artist Series on March 18 with a performance by the Gaudete Brass Quintet, the ensemble-in-residence at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Blankenship Recital Hall, and admission is $5 for local students and $10 for adults. UTM students are admitted free with valid student ID.
The Gaudete Brass Quintet has performed at prominent venues and on radio broadcasts across the country since its formation in 2004. The ensemble has also recorded three albums and given presentations at institutions such as The Juilliard School.
During the week of March 10-16, the UTM Department of Music will host the Air Force Band of Mid-America Brass Quintet at 7:30 p.m., March 11, in Blankenship Recital Hall. The department will also introduce the newly formed Trio Sonoritas, comprised of Dr. Amy Yeung, soprano; Sandra Cox, flutel and Chan Mi Jean, piano; at 7:30 p.m., March 14, also in Blankenship Recital Hall. Both performances are free and open to the public.
The following week, community members can enjoy a performance by the UTM small jazz group beginning at 7:30 p.m., March 19, featuring the music of Stevie Wonder, Roy Hargrove and others. The University Trio, comprised of Dr. Elaine Harriss, piano; Dr. Crista Frye, clarinet; and Sandra Cox, flute; will give a recital at 7:30 p.m., March 21. Both of these performances will take place in Blankenship Recital Hall and admission is free.
