Madison Lee is starring as Abigail in Vanguard Theatre’s production this fall of The Crucible.
Lee, 19, is a sophomore Theater major from La Vergne.
Lee began acting in when she was just five. She said that she wouldn’t be happy doing anything other than theater.
Theater has become a part of who she is and she cannot imagine life without it. She also uses theater as a way to cope with her depression.
“I do have depression and sometimes that does get you down, but you can go on to the stage for two hours and become someone else and your problems don’t matter, it’s just their problems,” Lee said.
“It gives you a chance to just completely start new in a way.”
Lee’s advice for anyone who wants to pursue theater is to do it, because it’s so much fun.
Lee spoke about the ways to get involved in theater on campus, such as Alpha Psi Omega, Improv Alliance or auditioning for shows.
Lee was cast as Abigail Williams, who is the antagonist of The Crucible. Abigail and a group of her friends are “dancing” in the woods one night when they get caught by the local minister.
The girls are accused of using witchcraft and everyone starts to blame each other, with Abigail being the main instigator.
The play, written by Arthur Miller, is based on the story of the famous Salem Witch Trials that occurred in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1692-1693.
You can see Lee’s performance in The Crucible Nov. 1-4 or Nov. 8-11.
