Kaitlyn Frandsen’s “Flower Child” won Best in Show in the annual “Guitar as Art” exhibit.
Frandsen, 26, is a senior Art Education major from southern California.
Her inspiration for her guitar came from a line art drawing she did earlier this summer for her mom’s first tattoo.
“Honestly, everything just fell into place in a way, and I had an image in my head of what I wanted to make. I love creating pieces that include faces or human figures, and I fell in love with the reference image instantly,” Frandsen said.
The faces on the guitar were created using acrylic paint and the flower pattern was created using a fine line marker.
“Art to me is many different things, but when it comes to my own art, I try to create work that blends precision with beauty. I’m still toying with my own style and have some pieces in the works for my senior show later this year. I’m honored by the reaction I’ve gotten for my work and I hope I can continue to create art that people enjoy seeing,” Frandsen said.
