Creative Corner

Alyssa Rusciano is a junior English major with a focus in Creative Writing and a minor in Theatre from McEwen.

Rusciano’s passion for writing began at a young age. “I have been telling stories ever since I could talk, and have been writing those stories down ever since I could hold a pencil,” Rusciano says.

Rusciano says she writes because it allows her to express herself.

“When reality gets tough, I can lose myself in the fantastical world of my characters where there are no limitations.”

She also writes in order to improve her abilities. “Writing is a craft that will never be perfected by anyone, and I enjoy the endless journey of progress it involves. By writing, I am learning about the world around me while also learning more about myself.”

To aspiring writers, Rusciano says, “The only limitations are those you set for yourself. Don’t worry about if your story is ‘good’ or if you don’t think people will read it; write because it makes you happy.”

Her short story “Banana Girl” was published in last year’s edition of Beanswitch.
