CPAD hosts career fairs, other help for students

With a new school year beginning, Career Planning and Development (CPAD) is more important than ever.

Preparing for life after college is crucial and must be started from the moment you step onto campus. CPAD’s goal is to help each student have a plan for their life during and after college. CPAD assists in providing information and opportunities for students to get internships, jobs and also helps with deciding if graduate school is the right path for them.

Not only does CPAD meet with students personally, but they also host career fairs throughout the year to help students see how many opportunities there are in the area. In the coming weeks, several career fairs are happening with each having a different focus and target groups.

Demetrius Robinson, director of CPAD, says, “The advice is to utilize CPAD aka Career Services early and often. We can help students to prepare for the workforce.”

The career fairs are great ways to connect with businesses in the local area along with finding job opportunities that are only available through certain companies.

“Our office encourages the students to meet with a career counselor. The counselor will assist in helping the students to identify their next steps,” Robinson says.

Besides the career fairs, CPAD also provides free headshots on Wednesdays, along with resume building when stopping by the office. The offices are also where the Captain’s Closet is located. This is where free business attire is located and available to all current students.

CPAD also works directly with companies to source workers, which makes that transition from college to the workforce even more seamless.

“Our office encourages students to create a LinkedIn and Handshake Profile; by creating a profile this will expose the students to other opportunities outside of Martin. Attending CPAD’s annual career fairs also helps students to promote themselves by networking,” Robinson says.

Students may visit CPAD in room 210 of the Boling University Center.
