The Department of Visual and Theatre Arts held an open reception Tuesday, March 27 in the Fine Arts Building Gallery, called Collective Ground.
This exhibition highlights the work of UTM’s Digital Illustration and Poetry Workshop for the 2018 Spring semester. Students gathered to listen to poems wrote inspired by the graphic design art hung in the gallery.
Each graphic design student had multiple works, one inspired by a poem written by other UTM students and another inspired by a theme. When asked about the project, Macy Watkins a junior graphic design student from Mckenzie, Tennessee, said, “This project has really taught us how to collaborate with other artist, through this I have learned that people look a art in different ways and by merging those differences we are able to create something really beautiful.”
The art reception is free for students and people in the community.
“This is the first time this art show has been held in the gallery,” says graphic design Assistant Professor Sarah Haig. She says, “We have done this show 4 times now;being able to see all of the students work in the gallery makes it feel more official.”
The Collective Ground exhibit will be going on until April 7, 2018. The Fine Arts Gallery is open from 1pm to 5pm every day.
