Changes across campus continue

Several changes have been made across campus since students left for summer break.

Most students will be affected by the updated campus parking map, which restructures the access of parking to commuters.

According to Chad Worley of Public Safety, “Lot 4, Library, is now a staff only lot from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. After 3 p.m. the lot becomes non-designated, meaning anyone with a UT Martin permit can park there. Lot 13, Cooper Hall, is now a non-commuter lot, 24 hours a day.”

As for Lot 12, located near Humanities and Sociology, as well as lot 15, near Business Administration, the Staff section of the lot remains unchanged and is Staff only from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The updated parking map can be found on the campus public safety website. A physical copy can also be obtained through the Traffic Office in Crisp Hall.

Worley also mentioned that there will be lots of construction across campus coming in the future, so be on the lookout for emails from Public Safety.

Commuters have lost access to their parking due to the demolition of the Communications Building that started on June 6 to make way for the new Latimer STEM Building

A recent routine inspection of UTM’s ROTC Building revealed structural issues that caused the university to shut down the building until further inspections.

The ROTC Building, located in Hardy Graham stadium, which also serves as the indoor range for the Skyhawk rifle team, will remain closed until further notice while classes are being relocated.

Stadium access and visitor parking will not be affected, however visitor seating on the east side of the stadium will be closed until further notice.

“Our first concern is safety, both for spectators and ROTC Building
users,” said Dr. Keith Carver, UTM chancellor. “We look forward to correcting these problems and resuming use of an important university building.”
