Chancellor encourages students to be engaged

Chancellor Keith Carver’s goals for 2018 are what give UTM its own personality and character.

He encourages students to get out of their comfort zones while staying involved with different organizations on campus.

“This is just a friendly place and [students] should engage the resources offered on campus,” Carver said.

He also encourages students to get to know their faculty, because those mentors do care about them and their success. “[Students should] seek them for help if they need it,” Carver said.

The goal of student success at UTM is what sets the university apart from others in Carver’s opinion.

“In focusing on the things that make this place different: the way we engage our students, the way our students feel about the quality and the value of their degree,” Carver said, referring to a Gallup survey taken last year, the results of which paint a positive picture of students’ views of UTM. The chancellor shared some of the results during the recent fall faculty meeting.

“We know who we are. … We just have to keep doing that.”
