UPDATE (3:10 p.m.): More information on Heath Schroyer’s background has become available.
As assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at UNLV, Schroyer has had a significant impact on the school’s roster; in 2012, the Rebels’ recruiting class was ranked as the nation’s seventh-best class. That year’s class included Anthony Bennett, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.
During Schroyer’s time at Wyoming, he placed a heavy emphasis on academics. His influence caused the program, which had the worst academic progress rate of any sports program in the Mountain West Conference in the year prior to his arrival, to improve its APR by over 160 points by the end of his tenure, the nation’s third biggest turnaround over that span.

According to an article posted by CBS Sports, sources have stated that University of Nevada-Las Vegas assistant Heath Schroyer is expected to be named the new head coach of the UTM men’s basketball team.
Schroyer has previously been the head coach at the University of Wyoming and Portland State; his overall record as a head coach stands at 84 wins and 115 losses. During his three years as an assistant at UNLV, the Rebels went 71-32 and made two NCAA Tournament appearances.
Neither the UTM nor the UNLV sports information department has confirmed the hiring. UTM is expected to make an official announcement regarding the program’s next head coach on Thursday.
“UNLV coach Dave Rice is targeting former Loyola Marymount head coach Max Good to be Schroyer’s replacement,” according to CBS Sports.
UNLV has not confirmed with The Pacer that they are looking for Schroyer’s replacement. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
