Cancer Car Bash was a smash hit

The Cancer Crash Car Bash took place yesterday, September 10, in downtown Martin right in the middle of our Soybean Festival.

The Martin community was welcomed by an energetic team to grab a sledgehammer and bash a car to their hearts content, all in the name of finding a cure for cancer. Children, parents, grandparents and many UTM students took out some aggression for a cause.  There was a steady flow of people waiting in line or running up during the seldom slow moments to take a swing at the old car.

Patrons had the choice between paying one dollar for five hits or $1o for five minutes with the hammer and a t-shirt. A few participants that talked with The Pacer proudly shared that with a fun event like this they could not help but give a couple extra dollars since it is going to such a great cause.

This is the eighth year that Harper’s Wrecking Services has hosted this event. According to Lynn Harper, they have no plans to stop just yet. On average, this event brings in roughly $3,000 each year just from one day of beating up a car that would otherwise be scrap.  All proceeds from this event go to the American Cancer Society.
