The world’s largest aerospace company, Boeing, has some unbelievable news.
The $87 billion company has always impressed both militaries and consumers worldwide with their manufacturing of jetliners, military aircraft, satellites, missiles and many defense systems. This time, Boeing is developing an astonishing force field that could save many lives.
A force field is something the world has only dreamed about or witnessed in sci-fi films. While this new technology cannot deflect lasers and bullets, much like a scene from Star Wars, this force field will protect vehicles from roadside bombs and rocket blasts.
The technology of Boeing’s new force field is based on shock wave damage prevention. Although military carriers and Humvees are highly armored to protect soldiers from shrapnel, the shock wave of an attack can be just as deadly. This is where the force field will be effective. It will function by rapidly super heating the air between an explosion and the targeted vehicle, forming an electromagnetic arc. This process can absorb a tremendous amount of the shock wave before reaching the vehicle, saving the lives inside.
Knowing that IEDs are the leading cause of casualties for U.S. and coalition troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, this invention is definitely on the right track to saving many lives. Boeing may still be in the works on this project, but that has not stopped them from other major developments. In fact, they have just successfully built a GPS-navigated “Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb.” After Boeing found out that the M26 Artillery Rockets first used in the Gulf War were about to be retired, they found a cost-effective way to reuse them. They added a single guided explosive to them and now have a very impressive GPS controlled weapon.
With ingenuity and cost-effective development, it is no surprise Boeing has been around for 100 years and will continue to lead in development and protection of our country.
