Zeta Tau Alpha’s third annual Big Man on Campus was held Tuesday, April 1.
The event was to raise awareness for breast cancer. ZTA raised $5,306 for breast cancer education and awareness. The Mr. Big Man on Campus for 2014 is Rick Drewry, and Mr. Charitable is Zach Ward.
The emcees for the event were ZTA member Lauren Bennet and former Mr. Big Man on Campus Jeremy Bond. The judges included Betty Murphree Allen, Natalie Boyd, Christopher Karmosky, Greg Hazlewood and Katie Smith. The event saw five rounds; which included, the first two rounds which were casual wear and swim suit round. Then it was down to the top ten, and the young men performed their talents. Next, was the formal wear round and the men described their perfect dates. Lastly, was the top 5, this round required them to answer a randomly chosen question.
The top five included Gabriel Arroyo representing Alpha Delta Pi, Ward representing Alpha Omicron Pi, John Keeton representing Kappa Alpha Order, Drewry representing Chi Omega and Caleb Duke, who was also representing Kappa Alpha Order.
Drewry played the first movement of play for a wish, and Ward performed the evolution of dance during the talent competition.
Drewry was ecstatic about winning Mr. BMOC.
“It feels wonderful to be able to represent such a wonderful organization as Chi Omega and to be able to support such a wonderful cause as breast cancer awareness and education. I am so happy that we were able to raise over $5,000 beating last year’s total,” Drewry said.
More than $5,000 was raised at the event, which surpassed the total of last year’s event. The men competing in Big Man on Campus were not only trying to win Mr. BMOC, they were also competing for Mr. Charitable, which went to the man who raised the most money individually. Ward, who raised $645.23 by himself, won this award.
“It is very gratifying [to win Mr. Charitable.] My grandmother is a breast cancer survivor. So, I was not doing this to win and I wasn’t doing it for the fame and glory or whatever, I was really doing it to raise money and have a little fun at the same time. So, the fact that we surpassed last years $3,000 by almost 50% of that is amazing. I feel really blessed right now, and I am very honored to be Mr. Charitable,” Ward said.
ZTA looks forward to hosting this event for many years to come.
