It was a sad night in Nashville when Belmont ran all over UTM men’s basketball team, crushing them with a 90-53 victory.
Coming off a 78-76 victory against Austin Peay, the Skyhawks were ready to take on the Belmont Bruins. They came out strong defensively and held the Bruins at 8-2. Like the women’s game, after a couple of 3-pointers from the Bruins, the Skyhawks went down slowly.
“There was no scoring for us,” said head coach Jason James.
The Skyhawks usually play a decent passing game. Myles Taylor usually averages 12 points or more each game. This time the Bruins had his number and kept the team from passing to him to make the easy shots under the goal. Mike Liabo, who pulls off amazing 3-point shots, was shut down behind the 3-point line and in the paint.
Even when they were down 30 points, the Skyhawks refused to give up. They played with heart and a fire that hasn’t been seen until the Austin Peay victory. This just wasn’t the game for them. They were outplayed in every aspect and they just couldn’t seem to catch the rhythm they usually muster.
The leading scorers for the game were Justin Childs 16 points. He had seven rebounds and two assists. Myles Taylor was the runner-up with 15 points and eight rebounds. Jeremy Washington brought in eight points, four rebounds and one assist.
The Skyhawks will be back in action against Morehead State on Saturday Jan. 19, at 6 p.m. To follow the game, follow The Pacer on Facebook and Twitter, @thepacer.
