Beach volleyball schedule highlighted by two home tournaments

A total of 27 regular season matches comprise the 2020 UTM beach volleyball schedule, which was unveiled today by head coach Jaclynn Wilson. Three home events dot the spring slate, including the inaugural Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Beach Volleyball Championship tournament on April 23-25.

The Skyhawks officially start their third season as an NCAA varsity member with a six-day, 10-match swing through the Sunshine State. UTM plays Erskine College and Saint Leo in Saint Leo, Florida on March 2 before heading to Lakeland for a double dual against Florida Southern College the following day. The Skyhawks then head back to Saint Leo on March 4 to take on the host Lions and St. Petersburg College on March 4.

For the second straight year, UTM will take part in the Battle on the Bay tournament in St. Petersburg, Florida. This year’s event takes place on March 6-7 as the Skyhawks are slated to match up against Florida Gulf Coast, Florida Atlantic, host Eckerd College and Palm Beach Atlantic.

UTM’s 2020 home opener will take place on Thursday, March 19 when the Skyhawks take on Ottawa University out of Kansas in a double dual.

Two days later, UTM heads to Clarksville, Tennessee, for the Governors Challenge, squaring off against Loyola Marymount, Jacksonville State and Ottawa University.

The program’s first home tournament is set for March 27-29 as the Skyhawk Beach Invitational features Eastern Kentucky, Chattanooga, Austin Peay, Park University and Morehead State.

An April 8 double duel at Austin Peay follows before the regular season concludes with an OVC Weekend at South Beach event. UTM, Eastern Kentucky, Chattanooga, Morehead State and Jacksonville State will flock to Anniston, Alabama, on April 17-18 to make their final preparations before the league tournament.

The Skyhawks were selected to host the league’s marquee event, as the first-ever OVC beach volleyball champion will be crowned at the Skyhawk Beach Volleyball Complex. All six teams will qualify for the conference tournament in a double-elimination format consisting of 10 matches in three days.
