Skyhawk baseball’s Jordan Stoner is looking good going into the 2019 season, as Stoner was named to the 2019 Preseason All-OVC Team.
Stoner’s 2018 season, his first season in a Skyhawk uniform, was one of the best all-around seasons in program history.
According to Sports Information, Stoner posted a .382 batting average, amassed 79 hits and scored 44 runs in 2018. In addition, Stoner also led the team in 11 batting categories, including batting average (.382), on-base percentage (.465), hits (79), total bases (116) and runs scored.
Stoner, a Puyallup, Washington native and senior, transferred to UTM from Tacoma State Community College for the 2018 season. Prior to becoming a Skyhawk, Stoner was named to the NWAC Region All-Conference team and won the NWAC Region Gold Glove and NWAC Academic Excellence award during his successful tenure with the Titans.
Second-year UTM head coach Ryan Jenkins acknowledged Stoner as part of the Skyhawks’ senior leadership core.
“Our senior leadership is the greatest strength of this squad,” Jenkins said. “We are returning so many experienced players beginning with guys like Jordan Stoner, who had a great year last year,” according to Sports Information.
The Skyhawk baseball team will start the 2019 season on Friday, Feb. 15, when UTM goes up against South Dakota State in a three-game, neutral-site series in Russellville, Arkansas. The series will span from Friday to Sunday, with one game happening on each day.
