Authenticity Matters

Gordon Ramsay has been known for making authentic food.

Tiara Ramsey is becoming known for making authentic clothing.

November 15th, 2021, Tiara Ramsey sold her first authentic piece of clothing. Why is the clothing authentic? Well, quite literally, Ramsey’s brand is called “Authenticity Matters.”

Authenticity, in the words of Ramsey, means “to be as original and as true to yourself as you can be. It means owning who you are and not thinking twice about what others think.” Ramsey has always been into DIY projects, but when she started to draw, inspiration began to transpire. Ramsey creates her own designs, with her motto “authenticity matters,” and puts them onto sweatshirts, sweatpants, shirts and shorts.

The brand speaks for itself, yet it also speaks for Ramsey herself. “Once I started learning who I was, what I valued, what my weaknesses and strengths were, I was able to show up as my true self. I was able to be honest with myself, and even face the things that I have tried to push back and hide, which is a big key to authenticity,” Ramsey states powerfully in order to show her direct reflection of her brand. The brand brings her happiness, and has definitely brought her customers happiness, selling 16 pieces since her start in the middle of November.

Just recently starting her brand, therein lies the challenge of investing for her start-up. Not only that, but also on top of running her own clothing brand, Ramsey is a personal trainer, has a job and is a full-time student at UTM pursuing health and human performance. Ramsey is a powerful testimony as a college student to not only being authentic, yet also extremely hardworking; worth recognition for.

Ramsey provides this advice to students who wish to follow in her footsteps:

“Stay encouraged and have faith in yourself. Taking the step to just start the business is big, so keep going. Even when sales are slow, keep going. Having confidence in yourself and your brand is key. Take pride in the art or content you create. We were all made to create, just put yourself out there, and you will attract the right audience that suits you.”

Ramsey encourages her own audience to “dig into the meaning” of her brand. She believes in the profound impact those words can have and the value that comes with being one’s true self.

Ramsey is 21 years old; however, her future is quite young.
