Ashnikko’s DemiDevil mixtape is her planting her glass platforms into the pop scene.
The mixtape is another of Ashnikko’s female empowerment gifts to young women, complete with features from prominent female artists like Princess Nokia, Grimes and Kelis. While DemiDevil is a pop album, there are rap, trap and nu-metal influences.
One of the lead singles, “Daisy,” is a TikTok phenomenon in which Ashnikko bucks stereotypes for female pop singers. The “Daisy” character “is a vigilante and who wears latex, blue diamonds and massive clear, icy platforms,” she said to Apple Music. If you’re not in love with that idea, you are at the very least intrigued. The “Daisy” music video does not disappoint with wild costumes, special effects and cameos from her fans on phones.
The next lead single is “Cry”. This song is a cluster of genres. It infuses nu-metal, pop rap, pop rock and future pop. From the minute the song starts, it’s obvious that this track has a vengeance. With its hard-hitting lyrics and music video, “Cry” is a standout favorite. It shows a different, more emotional side to Ashnikko that listeners haven’t heard.
Last, but certainly not least, is “Deal With It,” the ultimate pop breakup song. A healing sample from Kelis’ “Caught Out There,” this song is a wake-up call. To those that are in a toxic relationship: kick them to the curb and focus on you! It’s hard coming to terms with a bad relationship, but the sooner it’s over, the sooner you can heal from it.
The DemiDevil mixtape yanks you out of bed and tells you that you are a boss and the master of your own destiny. Blast this mixtape if you’ve ever had a horrible ex, a bad breakup or if you need a confidence boost.
