Michael Cera, born in Brampton, Ontario on June 7, 1988, is mainly known for his work in TV and film. Since before he completed high school, he has been in the public eye. This began with small roles in commercials for Tim Hortons and Pillsbury and later evolved into larger productions such as What Katy Did and I Was a Sixth Grade Alien. For a few years after these productions, Cera’s work continued with roles in TV. In 2003, he played a role in the popular sitcom Arrested Development as George Michael, which pivoted his career. This role exposed the qualities that Cera would become known for: being awkward, timid, sensitive and nerdy. The unveiling of these qualities caused Cera’s acting career to take off, landing him roles in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Juno, Superbad and more. While Cera has worked on over 100 productions, working in TV and film is not all he has done in his time.
While working in TV and film, Cera has also been able to create a lesser-known musical career for himself. This is not just his musical renditions in his acting roles but many musical outlets he has found. Cera was the touring bassist for an indie rock group called Mister Heavenly and was in a band known as The Long Goodbye. The Long Goodbye was an indie band he formed with Clark Duke and Christian Buenaventura where they released a few songs on their MySpace page. These musical endeavors sparked Cera’s interest in creating his own solo music. On August 8, 2014, he released his debut album True That, which is a collection of original songs and covers. This album was his breakthrough moment in the music industry and serves as the primary example of his solo career. This album was followed by three years of silence until his return to his musical career with the song Best I Can in 2017, which featured Sharon Van Etten. Since this song in 2017, Cera has not released more music.
