At approximately 8:50 p.m. on April 28, a masked suspect entered Next Door at 120 Hurt St. and stole $62 in cash and 10 watermelon wraps.
“[The victim] advised that an unidentified person had just come in the store and robbed the cash drawer by gun point,” according to a police report.
The suspect entered through the front door and made his way to the counter. He then pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim. The suspect told the victim to open the cash drawer.
“The victim advised the subject that the drawer was already open. The subject told the victim to open the drawer all the way and to step back. When the victim did so, the subject took all of the paper currency out of the drawer,” according to the report.
After taking the money from the cash register, the suspect took 10 watermelon wraps off the counter and exited the store.
“He then took approx. 10 watermelon wraps from the counter and exited the store through the front door and left the area on foot headed west,” according to the report.
At 9:13 p.m. UTM students received an email informing them the suspect was last seen towards campus and were advised to stay inside for the remainder of the night.
At the time of the incident the only witness that was able to be located was the victim. MPD and Campus Safety sent officers to the area to search for the suspect. Currently, no arrests have been made, and officers are still searching for the suspect.
The suspect was described in a rave alert email to students as a “tall black male, 6’2” slender, [wearing] a dark hoodie and a mask. Any one with information can contact Martin Police Department at 731-587-5355.
