It never fails that each semester seems to pass by quicker and quicker.
This week is the last week of classes. For some of us, the last time we will sit in a classroom and take notes from our favorite professors or (in the case of some) awkwardly shift in our seats because we didn’t do the reading last night.
It is the last week of a semester that has been both long and short, tedious and exciting, eventful and dull. 2019 has been a year in waiting, especially as our counterparts in the national media have been trying with all their might to push the country into 2020 and into the carnival-like frenzy that is an election year.
But here at UTM, we have concerns closer at hand. After this week is finals week, a time for scrambling to cram for tests and assemble portfolios.
For many of us, it feels like we just started classes for fall of 2019, and now the semester has drawn to a close. Christmas break will soon be upon us, as are the last week of classes and finals.
To the freshman putting your first semester under your belts, congratulations. We can’t promise it will get easier from here, but we can say that almost every semester passes just the same way: a slow start building to a flurry of activity and then a final realization that the semester has passed by in what feels like the blink of an eye. We hope that your first semester hasn’t scared you away from UTM or college altogether.
To the seniors for whom this is their last semester, we wish you good luck in your search for a career or graduate education. It’s been an honor to have you here, and remember that you will always be a Skyhawk.
For the rest of you, we’ll see you back here the first week of the spring semester. Enjoy your much-needed break, home with family and friends for the holidays. Here’s to another semester here at UTM.
