King Celebration Breakfast set Jan. 20

UTM will co-host the eighth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Breakfast in the Boling University Center’s Duncan Ballroom on Jan. 20.

The breakfast celebration is held each year to honor local community leaders and the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. Mark McCloud, director of Career Planning and Development (CPAD), was chosen to serve as the keynote speaker. McCloud supervises strategic planning, programming, recruiting and overall operations for the CPAD, which helps students find jobs tailored to their education as well as provides ways to get students prepared for the job market.

McCloud holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from UTM and a master’s and doctorate from Mississippi State University. McCloud also serves as the Northwest Tennessee liaison for the Tennessee Association for Colleges and Employers as well as vice president of the local Rotary Club.

According to Eventbrite.com, “This event brings together community and university to celebrate and honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and raise awareness to live with purpose.”

Following McCloud’s speech, there will also be performances from the UTM music department as well as the honoring of three different award recipients including The Alpha Award, The Torch Award and the Harold Connor Award.

All community members are urged to attend. The event is free of charge, but those planning on attending must complete pre-registration on Eventbrite, as registration is limited to the first 300 people. Tickets will be checked at the door, therefore attendees should bring their digital or printed tickets to the event.

The event this year is also co-hosted by UTM, the City of Martin and the UTM Black Student Association

The program is set to begin at 9 a.m. and should conclude around 10:30 a.m.

More information can be found by contacting the Martin City Hall at 731-587-3126, or by contacting the Office of Multicultural Affairs in room 245 of the University Center.
