Alumni Spotlight: Caroline Gurton

Meet Caroline Gurton, a Fall 2022 graduate of UT Martin.

Gurton graduated with a degree in Agricultural Business. While a student at UT Martin, Gurton was heavily involved in her sorority, Chi Omega. She served on Executive Council as the Director of Programming. Gurton was also a huge part in reviving the Collegiate Farm Bureau after it became inactive due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She represented the organization extremely well, serving as its president and competing in the Final Four of the State Collegiate Discussion Meet competition.

Gurton was an active member of the Student Alumni Council, serving as the Social Media Chair. This position helped prepare her for the Alumni Programming Coordinator position here at UT Martin. She now serves as the advisor for the Student Alumni Council, helping students create connections with alumni. Gurton jumped right into the position, working with the Alumni Relations team to plan the Met in Martin Valentine’s Day Dinner, the Golden Grad Dinner, and the Captain’s Challenge.

With the help of Gurton, UT Martin broke its previous number of donations, receiving a total of 1,643 donations.

In addition to her job with Alumni Relations, Gurton will soon be starting the Master’s Program in Strategic Communications. If that wasn’t enough, she has also been planning her dream wedding to fellow UT Martin graduate Lane Parton. In the future, Gurton looks forward to starting a family of their own, but for now, she is enjoying her time working with the university.

Although Gurton still gets to experience life in Martin, she never realized how big the change would be when her friends moved post-graduation. Her biggest advice to students is to take advantage of having your best friends down the road.

“Show up for every event even when you’re tired, just to spend time with the people you care about,” says Gurton.

Although academics are important, she believes that the people in Martin are truly what makes the college experience.

Gurton was known around campus as a friendly face that you could always count on as a helping hand. With her new position, she gets to continue to be this person for students for years to come.
