Meet Brooklynne Barnhill, a Fall 2021 graduate of UT Martin.
During her time at UT Martin, she was a member of Phi Eta Sigma honor society, a Pre-Med Scholar, and a member of the leadership team at the Baptist Collegiate Ministry, where she led and participated in worship services. Barnhill also spent a lot of time with the First Year Initiative program, spending a year as a PEP leader and two years as the College Leader for the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences.
Barnhill received the Paul and Martha Meek Award at graduation. This prestigious award is given to a few students each year who exemplify leadership and service to the UT Martin community.
After graduation, Barnhill spent the spring semester working in the Biology department as an Adjunct Laboratory Professor. She says this experience gave her the confidence she needed to excel as a graduate student.
Now, Barnhill spends her days on the campus of the University of Kentucky as a first-year student in Physicians Assistant school. This is a 29-month long program, which awards a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Her dreams don’t stop at becoming a PA; Barnhill would also like to become an advocate for Physician Assistants by pushing for legislation to increase autonomy for PAs.
As she looks back on her years on campus, she wishes that she had taken more time for herself in the midst of her busy schedule. There was one weekend each year that Barnhill never missed: rodeo weekend. She says some of her favorite UT Martin memories were created during rodeo weekend!
Barnhill has some advice for seniors saying, “You are more than capable of accomplishing anything you want to.”
She believes that many seniors go through imposter syndrome, causing them to have doubts about their abilities as they enter the post-college world. However, Barnhill says that UT Martin did a great job at preparing her for life after graduation.
“The education I received as a student at UTM prepared me for the rigorous coursework and fast-paced learning environment I have encountered as a graduate student,” Barnhill says.
