2024 NFL mock draft 1.0: Minnesota and Denver trade up; Nix lands in the AFC

As teams are meeting in Indianapolis this week for the NFL Draft Combine, it is now a good time to lay out current projections for how the 2024 spectacle in April will play out with some reasoning.

  1. Chicago Bears (From CAR): Caleb Williams, QB, USC

The word generational is thrown around way too often, however Williams is the exception. Williams ability to improvise and make plays outside of the set play elevates him above most of the quarterback prospects over the last two decades, drawing comparisons to both Patrick Mahomes and Andrew Luck. The Bears will be moving off from Justin Fields.

  1. Washington Commanders: Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina

Dan Quinn and Kliff Kingsbury both get their guy and a new QB. Kingsbury brings in the air raid offense, the same offense Maye excelled in at UNC. Maye has the best pocket presence in the entire class and goes two to Washington.

  1. TRADE (From NE): Minnesota Vikings: Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU

The Vikings were willing to trade the farm last offseason to move up in the draft and could not get a deal done. This offseason, they will, selecting Daniels to be their QB post the Kirk Cousins era.

  1. Arizona Cardinals: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State

Harrison Jr. is the best prospect in this draft. Harrison Jr., the son of NFL hall of famer Marvin Harrison, is already tabbed as the next NFL great wide receiver. In a class of great receivers prospects, Harrison Jr. has separated himself from the rest and will be the first non-QB taken come April.

  1. Los Angeles Chargers: Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame

Jim Harbaugh wants to run the football and most importantly, protect Justin Herbert. They will select Alt to be the right tackle opposite of their franchise left tackle Rashawn Slater.

  1. New York Giants: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU

Whether the New York Giants believe Daniel Jones can be the franchise QB or not, there needs to be accountability from Joe Schoen and the Giants front office. They have consistently failed to provide Jones with the number one receiver he deserves, and here at pick six is where they make it happen. Nabers is the top receiver on the board and would have been WR1 if not for Harrison Jr.

  1. TRADE (From TEN): Denver Broncos: J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan

Lacking both cap space and draft capital, Denver makes the decision to go up and get their QB. Sean Payton will look the develop the raw Michigan prospect into the next Broncos face of the franchise.

  1. Atlanta Falcons: Dallas Turner, DE, Alabama

New Falcons head coach and former Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris will look to add to this defensive interior as he takes over the Falcons franchise. The last three years have all been offensive picks in the first round and now the Falcons turn to the defensive side of the ball and draft their top edge in the draft.

  1. Chicago Bears: Rome Odunze, WR, Washington

After selecting Caleb Williams number one overall in the draft, the Bears instantly get their New franchise QB some help. The pairing of Moore and Odunze instantly becomes a tandem to be reckoned with. Odunze, like Nabers, could be the top receiver prospect in any other draft if not for Harrison Jr. Odunze now falls right into the Bears lap.

  1. New York Jets: Taliese Fuaga, OT, Oregon State

Jets general manager, Joe Douglas, has singled out Fuaga as his guy going into the 2024 NFL draft. He will now be given the job of keeping Aaron Rodgers protected throughout the 2024 season.

  1. TRADE (From MIN): New England Patriots: Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia
  2. TRADE (From DEN): Tennessee Titans: Olu Fashanu, OT, Penn State
  3. Las Vegas Raiders: JC Latham, OT, Alabama
  4. New Orleans Saints: Byron Murphy II, DT, Texas
  5. Indianapolis Colts: Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama
  6. Seattle Seahawks: Jared Verse, DE, Florida State
  7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Brian Thomas Jr., WR, LSU
  8. Cincinnati Bengals: Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson
  9. Los Angeles Rams: Laiatu Latu, DE, UCLA
  10. TRADE (From PIT): Green Bay Packers: Cooper DeJean, CB, Iowa
  11. Miami Dolphins: Jackson Powers- Johnson, C, Oregon
  12. Philadelphia Eagles: Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo
  13. Houston Texans: Keon Coleman, WR, Florida State
  14. Dallas Cowboys: Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia
  15. TRADE (From GB): Pittsburgh Steelers: Bo Nix, QB, Oregon
  16. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Chop Robinson, DE, Penn State
  17. Arizona Cardinals (From HOU): Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama
  18. Buffalo Bills: Kamren Kinchens, S, Miami (FL)
  19. Detroit Lions: Leonard Taylor, DT, Miami (FL)
  20. Baltimore Ravens: Troy Fautanu, G, Washington
  21. San Francisco 49ers: Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma
  22. Kansas City Chiefs: Jer’Zhan Newton, DT, Illinois
