2020 SGA Election Results

The Student Government Association (SGA) continues to work while everyone is away from campus.

Campus life has been put to a halt due to COVID-19. Despite the cancellation of many events, SGA found a way to continue student involvement by holding this year’s elections virtually.

To qualify for candidacy, a student must receive the election packet, obtain 25-50 signatures–depending on the position they’re running for– on their Election Platforms Form; submit their platform, biography, party list and photos; and they must pass the constitution test. Then they are able to begin campaigning, which was focused to social media for this year’s elections.

Students may run as independent or as part of a party. This year there were two parties, the Martin Student Alliance and the Unity Party.

Here are the winners of the 2020 SGA Elections:

President: Hunter McCloud with 53.96% of the vote Vice President: Sidney Church with 60.02% of the vote Secretary General: Jacob Butler with 54.83% of the vote

Press Secretary: Veronica Kanka with 87.15% of the vote Justice: Mackeala Hammonds with 50.81% of the vote and Mercedes Scott with 49.18% of the vote

Three candidates were elected as Advisory Board student members: Emma Hillard, Matthew Grant and Anthony Osborne.

Candidates are also elected as senators for each college on campus: Agriculture and Applied Sciences; Business and Global Affairs; Education, Health, and Behavioral Sciences; Engineering and Natural Sciences; and Humanities and Fine Arts.

Kelsea Koonce, Ethan Bledsoe, Trevor Boals, Treasure Howard and Jack Garrett were elected to represent the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences.

Dawson Gremmels, Olivia Morris and Mireya Carrion were elected to represent the College of Business and Global Affairs.
