2014 Weakley County Election information

The  2014 Weakley County Election Forum, sponsored by WestStar Alumni and the Weakley County Chamber of Commerce, was held June 16  at UTM in the Watkins Auditorium.

The doors opened at 6 and the room filled by 6:30 p.m. Charley Deal, Director of Alumni Affairs, opened the forum by announcing which candidates would be speaking and which ones would just be recognized. Before Deal turned the forum over to the candidates, he left the crowd with a quote by Peter Drucker to ponder upon, regarding the upcoming election.

“‘Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked. Leadership is defined by results, not attributes,'” Deal said.

Dillon Matlock, UTM Political Science and Business Administration major, attended the forum showing great interest in which candidates were running and what that had to say.

“More students should be interested in the candidates that are running for our county’s positions. It’s important to know the stances of the candidates and what they plan to do to better the university and the surrounding area,” Matlock said.

The candidates who are running in the upcoming Weakley County elections, and the candidates who were running for State representative positions were each given the opportunity to introduce themselves and their families, and then give any opening remarks. After the introductions and opening remarks, the floor was opened for a question and answer session so members of the community could ask each candidate questions openly. The forum then gave important information regarding the election, such as dates to remember and information about the individual candidates and the particular position being sought.
